| The Furmint February, initially only an idea, has been evolved into a well-organized event, which offers versatile and exciting programs. In February vast number of merchants offers furmint (dry white wine) at discount price and restaurants put new creations on their menus, which are prepared exclusively for this wine or for specific varieties of other types of wines. During this period many interesting news, novelties and colorful articles are published about this type of wine, about the region and about producers. Various types of furmints are offered in dozens of wine presentations.
The pinnacle of the series of events is the Great Furmint Tasting, to be held on 7 February in the Vajdahunyad Castle, where wines from more than 50 cellars will be available for tasting.
Wine lovers will be astonished by the versatility of this type of wine – by the wide variety of furmints ranging from light, elegant wines made in tanks to the full-body barrique style. In summary, anybody who wants to taste various styles of this wine at a single, concentrated place, this complex event is the best opportunity to do so. In addition, visitors may learn a lot about the directions winemakers are moving into.This year the campaign aimed to spread the furmint moved beyond the borders of Hungary. During this event the Hungarian Wine House in the United Kingdom will sell furmints at 10 % discount. At present the Wine House offers four varieties of furmint: one dry, two semi-dry and one semi-sweet furmint from Pannon Tokaj. This may not be the final range; additional types could increase the current offering.
