Hungarian success at the world’s largest organic wine competition

Mundus Vini 2013The Cabernet Franc Selection Vintage 2009 from the hungarian Gajdos Cellar won the great gold medal at Mundus Vin, the number one organic wine competition held in Germany. The medal was presented on Wednesday.
This year more than five thousand wines were entered into the competition. The panel of judges awarded 105 gold medals and 125 silver medals, whilst the 7 best wines won great gold medals.
The winning wine was the base component of the so-called Bulls Blood (Bikavér) made by the cellar, thus it has not been distributed on its own before. This Bulls Blood – as a result of melding cabernet franc, kékfrankos (dry red variety) and blauburger – won the highest award in Hungary as well.
The winery produces grapes on 52 hectares in the Eger region. These grapes are processed into organic wines only; annual production is app. 120-150 thousand bottles.
Mr. Gajdos, a specialist in organic winemaking believes that concentrating on quality is worthwhile. His approach is supported by the success at Mundus Vin, which opened several doors to the winery. The medal was presented at the world’s largest organic product exhibition, at the BioFach in Nuremberg. János Gajdos added, that as a result of the success at this competition one of the leading organic wine distributors has already approached his winery.
