The Etyek-Buda Irsai Oliver wine of the Szent Istvan Korona (Saint Stephen’s Crown) had been selected to be the best Hungarian white wine in its category back in May on the Decanter World Wine Awards contest in London, winning the Regional Trophy. The awarding ceremony held on 7 September in the Royal Opera House of London, brought further excitement: the wines winning Regional Trophy prize went on a further contest for the International Trophy prize.
In the category of scented white wines, the creator of the Irsai Oliver wine of the Szent Istvan Korona, Gabor Laczko and an Argentinian wine grower could be the most excited about getting the prize for the best wine of the World. The two of them remained in contest. The international trophy went to the Argentinian finally, but we can all be proud of our second place, because one Hungarian wine got into the final of this renown, international contest.
