Based on votes cast by the public, the title of Young Winemaker of Year 2011 was awarded to Orsolya Bodri, apprentice winemaker at Bodri Cellars and Mihaly Figula jnr., winemaker at Figula Cellars in Balatonfüred. The prize was presented at a wine tasting on Saturday evening.
This was the third year of this competition; this time consumers selected 85 winemakers by voting on the Internet. In the following step wine lovers voted to find the best winemaker; Orsolya Bodri and Mihaly Figula jnr. received equal number of votes.
Orsolya Bodri is a fifth generation winemaker. Although this young lady has been involved in the family enterprise since 2007, so far she was engaged mostly in marketing. Not long ago she returned to school; now she is attending the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking.
Mihaly Figula jnr. took over his father’s vineyards on hillsides at Balatonfüred and its
vicinity. After the death of his father he and her mother have been cultivating 25 hectares
owned by the family and another 5 hectares leased vineyards.
