Mátyás Szik (Prime Steak and Wine Restaurant, Budapest) won the title of Champion Sommelier 2014, followed by Gábor Cseke (Schloss Hotel Pichlarn, Austria) and Norbert Varga (Onyx Restaurant, Budapest).
Seven people entered into the Sommelier Championship held on Sunday. After completing theoretical and practical tasks, three of them reached the final, which was open to the general public.
The final round of the competition was held under actual restaurant condition, keenly watched by the audience. The competitors had to prove their experience in every field, from serving champagne to decanting wine, including the correction of errors on the wine list and offering appropriate drinks for meals. In addition, they had to provide detailed information about various wines and spirits.
